The Texas Rangers and architects HKS have revealed new project renderings in advance of the September 28 groundbreaking at the new Globe Life Field.
Based on a project focus of transparency and asymmetry, the design includes a distinctive venue entrance that features an overhang – calling to mind a traditional Texas porch. The transparency theme continues with arches along the 360° upper concourse, and a retractable roof. The transparent roof will include baffles/shields to block players from direct sunlight. In addition, seating has been placed low and close to the field to create an intimate and intense fan experience for spectators.
The new ballpark will measure approximately 1,700,000ft², and will seat around 41,000. The US$1.1bn project will sit on a site of 13 acres. Excavation will begin in early October, with the ballpark due to open for the 2020 baseball season.
