English soccer club Southend United has submitted plans for a proposed new stadium and associated development to Southend Borough Council. The new ground would replace the club’s current stadium at Roots Hall. If approved, the club intends to commence construction as soon as possible on the project, which would include a 22,000-seat stadium.
The club has long desired a move away from the Roots Hall site, which is hemmed in on all sides and thus unsuitable for stadium expansion. The League One side is awaiting feedback from the council authorities.
