The start of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is almost upon us, yet preparations for the Rio event have not been without obstacles. Widespread media reports have documented issues surrounding the Olympic infrastructure and, furthermore, just days before the opening ceremony, the Brazil Ministry of Justice has canceled a contract with private security firm Artel, which was to provide security for the Games.
Government officials had expected the firm to have recruited close to 3,500 security personnel, whereas only 500 had been hired, reports Sky Sports. Local police are reported to have been called in to meet the shortfall.
