A new stadium for English Premier League soccer team AFC Bournemouth would have to wait until a replacement athletics ground (which a potential new stadium would replace) could be built, reports the Bournemouth Echo.
The EPL soccer side, which currently has the smallest stadium in the top flight of English soccer, has been exploring options for a new facility. Building in King’s Park, however, would mean removal of the athletics club currently using the site, and a replacement facility would have to be agreed before the Premier League side could move ahead. The Echo reports that members and supporters of Bournemouth Athletics Club attending an open forum held in King’s Park were told by council representatives that any planning application submitted by the soccer club would be predicated on an agreement for provision of new athletics facilities.
