German soccer team VfB Stuttgart’s home stadium roof is to be completely replaced with material from Low & Bonar.
The performance materials provider will supply the architecture membrane to the Mercedes-Benz Arena’s 449,000ft² roof with work due to start immediately with the end of the 2. Bundesliga season.
Not only will the timing of the replacement work be challenging as it needs to be completed before the August return of VfB Stuttgart, but specialist skills will be required as the membrane is located 59-115ft above the ground.
Made of a special dense woven fabric that is coated with a fluoridated nano-topcoat, which makes it easier to clean, the Mehgies Valmex Mehatop membrane can be pre-produced, shipped to the site and erected directly, saving valuable time. These factors played a role in its selection by German design contractor Schleich and Bergmann.
Brett Simpson, CEO of Low & Bonar, comments, “We pride ourselves on the quality of our performance materials. Valmex fabrics have been proven to last for decades due to particular properties of the material. This saves on long-term maintenance and replacement costs and adds to the venue sustainability.”
