The city of Lafayette, Indiana, is planning a US$16m project to demolish Loeb Stadium and replace the venue with a new facility, reports the Journal & Courier.
The scheme will also reorient the ballpark, with the new home plate location set to fall in the current center field. Loeb Stadium is home to the Lafayette Aviators of the amateur Prospect League. Demolition is planned for the autumn of 2019, with construction expected to take about a year, and the new, reoriented stadium to open in 2020.
The new facility’s entrance will also be relocated in line with the city’s plans to increase economic development by increasing the venue’s profile in the community.
