After uncertainty over where the NFL’s Oakland Raiders would be playing its home games for the 2019 season, it has been confirmed they will stay one more year at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
As the Raiders wait for the completion of its new multibillion dollar stadium in Las Vegas, which the team will relocate to in 2020, the team was looking for an option for the 2019 season following the expiry of its lease at the Coliseum.
The team revealed it explored the possibility of playing at Oracle Park, home to Major League Baseball team San Francisco Giants, however faced opposition from the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers.
However, the Oakland Raiders and Coliseum Authority have reached an agreement for the team to play the 2019 season at the 63,132 capacity stadium, which is also the home to the Oakland Athletics baseball team.
The final details of the deal are yet to be finalized, however it is understood it may also include the option to extend into the 2020 season in the event its Las Vegas home isn’t ready in time.
