Last month’s poll question asked readers for their thoughts on the unusual dual announcement of Olympic host cities for the 2024 and 2028 Games. With Paris, France, and Los Angeles, California, formally awarded the respective summer events, the announcement means that LA has 11 years of lead time to prepare for the Games.
Given that recent Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Athens, Greece, are still surrounded by controversy over how much the events cost to stage, we asked you whether LA’s preparation period will increase the chances of LA 2028 being a success for the city.
The majority of readers – 70% – felt that the longer period means the Los Angeles has every opportunity to ensure the Games don’t prove detrimental to the city. Just 30% believe that the Olympic model invariably means that the host city will suffer as a result of staging the Games.
