Operators of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium – the new home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United – have announced that this weekend’s match between the Falcons and the Green Bay Packers will be the first event played at the new venue with the retractable roof open, weather permitting.
Given the Falcons’ move to the Georgia Dome in 1992, the upcoming home game sees the first open-air game in Atlanta for 25 years. Though work to automate the roof will continue over the coming months, the complex mechanism will be open for the NFL game.
