Russian soccer club FC Zenit Saint Petersburg has announced that, following agreement from the Russian Football Union and UEFA, the team will play its home games at the new Stadium St Petersburg located on Krestovsky Island.
The team, which competes in the Russian Premier League, will play fixtures against Ural in April, and against Terek and Krasnodar in May. The 68,000-seat stadium will serve as a host venue for the FIFA Confederations Cup during the summer, and will also be one of the stadia used for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where it will host group matches, one of the semi-final ties, and the third-place play-off.
The news means that the club bids farewell to the 21,500 Petrovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.
