The 3G Market Road pitches in Islington have been unveiled as the first winner of MyLocalPitch’s ‘Outstanding London Venue Sports Award’.
Backed by English Premier League soccer club Arsenal, the £2.1m (US$3.1m) Islington complex was reopened in September by club legend Liam Brady, following refurbishment.
The renovation saw two full-size pitches installed as well as three five-a-side 3G pitches, eight new changing rooms, a training room and improved spectator viewing facilities.
“Anyone who wants to play football is attracted to this place, you can see what’s gone on here,” said Brady. “It’s a really important part of Islington, and London for that matter. There are not many facilities like this.”
The award, which is determined by MyLocalPitch users, was based on pitch quality, venue amenities and customer experience. The Islington complex was voted as first choice out of more than 1,000 venues.
Jamie Foale, co-founder of MyLocalPitch said, “As the leading service matching sports teams with venues, we constantly receive feedback from our users about the sports facilities they book.
“We were hearing so many positive stories that we thought we should let venues know what our players thought of them so we set up the awards.
“Given the quality of experience people have at Market Road we are delighted they are the first recipient of this award.”
Aleksandra Chmielewska, a block bookings administrator for Market Road, said, “The team here is thrilled to receive this award and it gives us huge satisfaction that our customers appreciate our ongoing efforts.
“We always aim to deliver an excellent customer service for our sports enthusiasts for years to come.”
