Motorpoint Arena Nottingham has marked a milestone in its pledge to conserve water and improve the washroom experience for visitors.
The popular venue teamed up with Derby-based Hygiene Services Group (HSG) ten years ago to install the innovative Ureco system in 13 male washrooms across the site.
Since then, the arena has reduced its water consumption by more than 215 million liters, saved more than £371,000 (US$482,000) in water bills and accrued many further savings in maintenance and repairs.
Recognized last year with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, HSG’s Ureco system has been designed to reduce the amount of water flushing through washroom urinals to just four flushes per day.
This is done through the unique design of the product and a blend of natural bio enzymes to ‘eat away’ at waste product within the waste pipework.
The Ureco, which is fitted into the urinal bowl, also has other filters and a patented ‘odor lock’ system which controls odors within urinal pipework.
Ureco works alongside the Uretech water manager which incorporates many features that allow the user to adjust water consumption in urinals based on their business type and usage requirements.
The arena’s facilities manager, Amanda Wright, commented: “We initially started working with HSG for washroom services and then adopted the Ureco system ten years ago to conserve water as part of our environmental impact strategy.
“As a venue we have deliberately set very ambitious environmental targets and continue to take steps towards sustainability at every opportunity.
“Using the Ureco system helps us to reduce waste water at the same time as efficiently processing high volume usage in our male facilities during major events.”
HSG managing director Simon Rice explained: “Motorpoint Arena Nottingham were among the first venues to adopt the Ureco system and we are delighted that they and many other venues who trialed the system in those early days have continued to work with us since then.
“The Ureco system is now used in a wide range of venues across the UK including most of the top visitor attractions as well as top hotels, offices, shopping centers, supermarkets, factories and sporting venues and we have seen a dramatic growth in business since gaining The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation last year.”
