Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar is reported to be implementing high-tech methods to ensure that the tournament’s pitches are of the highest quality.
Both 3D printers and wind tunnels are being used to ensure that the pitch surfaces hold up to the rigors of an international soccer tournament, reports the AFP in a story that has been picked up by numerous outlets.
Scientists at Qatar University are using 3D-printed models of the country’s under-construction stadia to determine aerodynamics, light resistance and how the designs will cope with the desert conditions. These models also include examples of pitch playing surfaces.
