Polk County and Global Spectrum have selected Daktronics to design, manufacture and install a new center-hung LED video display configuration featuring five displays to enhance the fan experience for events at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.
The rectangular-shaped configuration features two large side-facing displays, two end-facing displays and an outward-facing ring display along the bottom perimeter. Both side-facing displays will measure approximately 15.5ft in height and 28ft in width, with both end-facing displays measuring approximately 15.5ft in height and 15.5ft in width.
All four of these displays will feature a 6mm line spacing to provide high resolution video with wide angle visibility, as well as variable content zoning, allowing them to show one large image or to divide the display into multiple windows to show a variety of live video, instant replays, game scores, statistics, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.
The bottom ring display will feature a 10mm line spacing and will be approximately 2ft high and 78ft in diameter. This display offers the opportunity to show supplemental content in conjunction with the main video displays, as well as showing additional scoring and statistical information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages throughout events.
At the corners of the centerhung display configuration, in between the main displays, Daktronics will install LED freeform elements for accent lighting.
“Technology has evolved so much in the past 10 years that Wells Fargo Arena is ready for some significant upgrades to the fan experience,” said Global Spectrum’s Chris Connolly, general manager of the Iowa events center.
“We appreciate the Polk County Board of Supervisors’ assistance in getting these projects completed, which will enhance the experience for fans who attend events at Wells Fargo Arena while reducing our energy consumption.”
Outside of the facility, three new marquee displays will upgrade the existing displays to welcome people to the arena. These displays will each feature 10mm line spacing and be approximately 5ft high and 18ft wide. They will be used to show ticket and upcoming events information as well as sponsorship messages.
