The Armory at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, received a new LED video display designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics. The installation wrapped up in early January and now provides a more entertaining and exciting atmosphere for Illinois track and field fans.
“The addition of the Daktronics video board to the UI Armory has elevated both the fan and team experiences at all of our home competitions in addition to the other events we host in the facility,” says Eric Vetter, director of cross country/track and field operations. “The graphic and video elements have allowed us to more readily provide instantaneous results through Daktronics’ interface with our timing software, display general event information to our fans, and give us a visual avenue to promote our program and university.”
The display is located on the end wall of the facility and measures approximately 15ft high by 26ft wide. It features SMD LED technology at 10mm line spacing to offer crisp and clear images. The display incorporates variable content zoning which allows it to show one large image or to be separated into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replay, event results, animations and sponsorship messages.
“We’re proud to have been selected to bring a new and exciting experience to the Armory,” says Joey Hulsebus, Daktronics sales representative. “The University of Illinois is a great customer and always fun to work with. We’re looking forward to the success of this project for years to come.”
