US Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois, has selected Daktronics LED video displays to provide the best fan experience possible at events at the venue. Installation is currently taking place and includes four displays inside the arena and two displays outside the facility.
“We are excited to be introducing this entire new Daktronics video system throughout US Cellular Coliseum,” said US Cellular Coliseum vice president and general manager, Bart Rogers.
“Fans will instantly notice the displays as they drive by on Madison Street or enter the facility. Once they walk into the arena bowl, they will see the power of the new video displays. We can’t wait to fully showcase the system in the upcoming weeks for our customers’ enjoyment at each and every event.”
At one end of the venue’s interior, one display will measure approximately 14.5ft high by 26ft wide. At the other end of the venue will be a three-display configuration with a larger display in the middle and one smaller display on each side. The middle display will measure approximately 11.5ft high by 21ft wide, with the two smaller displays each measuring approximately 6ft high by 19ft wide.
All of the four interior displays will feature 10mm line spacing for crisp, clear imagery with wide-angle visibility to appeal to every seat in the house. Each display features variable content zoning which allows them to show one large image or to be divided into multiple smaller windows to show any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.
Outside the venue, a new marquee display will be installed on the side of the building near the entrance to welcome event-goers and promote future events. This display will measure 20ft high by 15ft wide and will feature 16mm line spacing.
In addition to the marquee display, US Cellular Coliseum will be one of the first sporting venues to install Daktronics street furniture – an eye-level, European-inspired video display. This display will measure 6ft high by 4ft wide and feature 6mm line spacing for increased resolution to address the close viewing distances associated with this application as passers-by walk up to within inches of the display. The venue can use this display for a more intimate version of the marquee display to promote upcoming events and highlight sponsors.
“This is a great project that will bring multiple video displays to feed a new digital excitement at US Cellular Coliseum,” said Joey Hulsebus, Daktronics sales representative. “We’re looking forward to the first events held at the venue to see the positive impact this new system has on the overall fan experience.”
Ten locker room clocks, three basketball shot clocks, three hockey goal lights and one portable auxiliary fixed-digit scoreboard were included with the installation.
“We spent a year and a half researching and touring facilities across the Midwest – one company continued to stand out and was recommended from venues at each stop along the way. That company was Daktronics,” added Rogers. “Seeing the process evolve through the idea stages working with sales, engineers, installation crew, creative services and the customer service support team really instills as to why they are the industry leader.”
