The Calgary Flames have partnered with Daktronics for a new LED center-hung configuration above center ice inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A new 360° fascia display will also be added to the arena this autumn prior to the start of the 2015-16 hockey season.
“We have worked with Daktronics for a number of years and they continue to provide quick and efficient installations and great follow up customer care,” said Carlo Petrini, senior director, broadcast and production for the Calgary Flames.
“Daktronics sales representative Mark Johnson, project manager Thad Kaltsulas and their team are a pleasure to work with, and Daktronics continues to be an integral partner for our success.”
The center-hung configuration is a combination of 14 video displays. Four main displays will each measure approximately 9ft high by 16.5ft wide and will feature 10mm line spacing. Above the main displays, eight displays will each measure approximately 8ft high by 10.5ft wide and will feature 15mm line spacing.
These displays feature variable content zoning that allows them to show one large image or to be divided into windows to show any variety of live video, instant replays, statistics and scoring information, graphics and animations, as well as sponsorship messages. They will provide crisp, clear imagery with wide-angle visibility for a great view from any seat in the arena.
At the top of the configuration, a ring display will measure roughly 2ft high by 127ft in circumference. At the bottom of the configuration, a ring display will measure roughly 2ft high by 82ft in circumference. These displays will both feature 20mm line spacing and be able to highlight sponsors throughout events while also providing additional graphics and statistics.
Along with the center-hung installation, a 360° ribbon display will be installed on the seating fascia around the arena measuring approximately 2.5ft high by 753ft wide and featuring 15mm line spacing. Similar to the ring displays, this display can show additional statistics, graphics and sponsorship messages, and create ambiance to supplement the main displays helping to create a complete fan experience.
“We’re proud to assist our long-time customer in upgrading their game-day experience,” said Johnson. “Flames fans will receive an extra level of excitement at every home game this season with the new video displays. We’re looking forward to seeing the impact of these displays as the hockey season moves along.”
Included in the installation is Daktronics’ industry-leading control solution, Show Control, which provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.
