Councilors have recommended plans for Sunderland AFC to build a 1,800m2 Fanzone with a capacity of 6,000 people. The proposed area will feature bar and food outlets, a big screen and an activity zone for children.
SAFC aims to have the site, located at the southeast corner of the Stadium of Light, ready for the start of the new EPL season. The area will be open three hours before kick-off and for an hour after final whistle, and will be open to both home and away fans.
A planning application was discussed by Sunderland City Council’s Development Control (North Sunderland) Sub-Committee.
Councilors at the meeting heard that the planned Fanzone would resemble that already run Premier League club Manchester City.
The new facility will be staffed by approximately 50 SAFC employees, and will be fully monitored by the football club’s team of stewards.
The Fanzone will also include seating and covered areas, as well as live music.
