The University of Alabama has revealed plans for a US$600m upgrade to its Coleman Coliseum, Mal M Moore athletic complex and Bryant Denny Stadium.
The university has so far raised US$143m for the decade-long project, known as The Crimson Standard, with The Crimson Tide Foundation working to generate the rest. Among those who have already pledged to help raise the necessary funds are the university’s head football coach Nick Saban and his wife Terry, who have announced that they are to donate US$1m.
Enhancements to Bryant-Denny Stadium, home of the university’s Alabama Crimson Tide football team, will include: renovation and expansion of multiple seating areas, to include three new club areas, and the addition of 3,826 new premium seats; the addition of loge boxes, new skyboxes and suites; a relocated press area; and improvements to all team areas, including the locker room and tunnel. The recruiting areas will be renovated and concourses expanded. Concession areas will be renovated in a bid to provide a better matchday experience for fans.

The Coleman Coliseum is home to the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s and women’s basketball and women’s gymnastics teams. Its interior will be completely transformed. The unique barrel vault roof and north entry columns will remain, while the seating bowl will be entirely renovated to offer seating options and amenities not previously possible. When complete, seats in the bowl will be up to 35ft (11m) closer to the court than at present. New premium seating will include dedicated club seats, multiple lounge spaces and a distinctive courtside club.
Renovations to the Mal M Moore athletic complex will involve overhauling the lobby and locker room. The recovery pools will be moved to align them more closely with the hydrotherapy treatment areas. A new two-level Sports Science Center will feature wellness treatment opportunities such as cryotherapy, chiropractic, stretch, massage and mental health services. Relaxation and treatment recovery areas will be available. The current weight room will be expanded.
