The New York Yankees kicked off the Grapefruit League 2017 season with the debut of an enhanced spring training home at George M Steinbrenner Field. From entry to the outfield, it was renovated to elevate the game-day experience. The Populous-renovated ballpark includes a new VIP fan plaza, main entrance pedestrian bridge, enlarged concourse to seating bowl passages, left and right field bullpen clubs, and additional outfield seating and fan amenities.
The VIP fan plaza consists of three pieces: the team store, Monument Park and VIP entry, all created to bring the Yankees’ brand closer to the fans. Just inside the stadium grounds from the new main entry bridge is a large Yankees logo statue perfect for photo opportunities. Once inside the ballpark, visitors are greeted by a new 360° concourse complete with revised branding and all new concessions. Toward the outfield, a Bullpen Club exists on each side of the stadium to elevate the ballpark’s premium offerings. Each consists of two stories with indoor and outdoor space, full bars and fixed balcony seating overlooking the field. On the first and third base lines are loge seating areas complete with drink rails and lounge furniture for ultimate comfort.
Outfield improvements include a new concourse that surrounds the playing field and new left and right field walls to match the geometry of Yankee Stadium. Behind left field there is new group seating space, center field is now home to a concessions space, and right field offers cabana suites and a circular bar with a steel framework roof.
“With the revised entrances, additional premium spaces and new branding, Yankees fans will immediately feel a greater connection to their regular season home,” says Populous principal David Bower. “To become one of the most recognizable sports franchises out there, a brand’s storytelling must be consistent and relevant. The Yankees have certainly found that in the new enhancements of George M Steinbrenner field.”
