Accrington Stanley FC has submitted plans for redevelopment of the English soccer club’s Wham Stadium.
Owner Andy Holt, who took over the League Two team in October 2015, had been in talks with the local council regarding securing a new lease on the stadium. Terms have been agreed on a 50-year lease, which means that plans for the first phase of development have also now been filed.
A new, 1,500-seater single-tier stand represents the initial stage of the project. Modern spectator facilities will be added to the ground’s concourse, with the addition of corporate boxes specified as a potential future development.
In a statement on the club’s website, Holt says, “We have been working together with the council and local community and looking at a substantial investment that will improve the entire area.
“We will create community facilities that should make the whole area something the people of Accrington can be proud of.
“It will be also a major boost for football fans coming to the Wham Stadium and improve their match day experience.”
