Toyota Stadium, home to FC Dallas, is undergoing a major renovation project. Currently Toyota Stadium seats 18,000. When the project is done in 2028, more than 21,000 fans will fit inside.
The total cost of the project is just under $200 million.
Toyota Stadium first opened in August 2005.
“Nowadays the venues get old quicker than they used to in the past, per say, with all the premium seating and all the stuff venues need nowadays and kind of what the clientele is,” said Nick Shafer, vice president of operations for Toyota Stadium.
After the championship game on Monday, work began on the east side where nearly 2,000 seats will be added along with a new gate, new club seating and more restrooms and concessions.
The most noticeable part of the project, the west side, will be completely demolished. The number of suites will increase from 22 to 57, along with a new press box and coaches box.
The stage will also undergo major renovations.
“We’ll have 1,400 fixed seats kind of where the ivy is now, and we’ll have 500 portable supporter section stands on there as well,” said Shafer.
The sound system and lights will also be upgraded.
The stadium, the home of Dallas’ major league soccer team, hosts about 85 events a year on the field and another 150 in the stadium.
