With this year’s Wimbledon tennis championships well under way, the All England Lawn Tennis Club is already looking forward to significant redevelopment of the complex’s No 1 Court – part of the larger Wimbledon Master Plan project. The London office of Thornton Tomasetti has released an image of the redeveloped stadium, which will include a new static, retractable roof due for completion by 2019.
The masterplan, which began in 2013, will also include improved public facilities, new hospitality sections, catering facilities, commentary boxes and refreshed seating. The capacity of the redeveloped venue will be in excess of 12,000 seats.
Thornton Tomasetti designed the new static roof structure – which will support the roof and house the plant equipment – as well as the trusses for the moving roof.
