Though the venue itself won’t be ready until the 2018/19 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors’ new home has been given a name. The 18,064-seat multipurpose arena in Mission Bay, San Francisco, will be called the Chase Center, after a naming rights deal was signed with JPMorgan Chase. Details of the deal have yet to be released.
The new development will include over 100,000ft2 of retail space, 3.2 acres of plazas and landscaped public space, a 35,000ft2 public plaza, a viewing deck showing off the San Francisco Bay, and approximately 580,000ft2 of office space. The site already has local transport links – and these will be even further enhanced when the Central Subway opens in 2018.
A groundbreaking date is yet to be set, but officials remain committed to having the venue ready for the 2018/19 season. The Warriors’ current home, the Oracle Arena, is the oldest home court in the NBA, and though recent upgrades to the California venue have improved the seating, video displays, scoreboard, wi-fi and boxes, the Warriors’ sports and entertainment center is, owners hope, the next logical step for the franchise.
