Joliet City Council has announced that the city stadium – formerly Silver Cross Field – will now be known as Joliet Route 66 Stadium. The 6,000-capacity stadium in the US state of Illinois is home to the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers, and the new name will refer to the city’s location on the USA’s famed highway.
The Herald-News reports that the stadium signage is yet to be changed, and a firm timetable for new façade materials has not yet been agreed.
The team and the city were informed that Silver Cross would not be renewing the naming rights deal in August 2016, but have not been able to confirm a new sponsorship agreement until now.
