The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has ordered an independent investigation into the cost of converting London’s former Olympic Stadium into the home of Premier League soccer team West Ham United FC, reports the BBC.
With the cost of conversion having risen from £272m (US$336m) to £323m (US$399m), Khan has claimed that the finances of the project – championed by former London Mayor Boris Johnson – had been left in an unacceptable state.
A major component of the rise in cost is a result of the venue’s retractable seating, which can be removed for concerts and athletics, as well as the expenditure on retrofitting the stadium roof.
