A grant from the English Premier League has helped soccer club Fairford Town FC, which plays in the Hellenic Football League Division One West, install new floodlights at the club’s Cinder Lane ground.
The new, US$28,065 floodlights were made possible by a US$19,580 contribution from the Premier League through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), which is the largest funder of non-league soccer in England.
The previous lighting system was installed in 1989 – the new installation now meets the relevant Ground Grading criteria for the club to continue playing at its current level. Grants were also received from Gloucestershire Activate and Fairford Town Council.
Funded with US$7.35m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF provides grants toward projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league soccer grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.
