A state-of-the-art Musco LED lighting system has enhanced the fan experience for visitors to MLS side Orlando City’s stadium. In preparation for the stadium’s 2017 season debut, the club’s management were keen to select a lighting system that would enhance the stadium experience with special effects capabilities, as well as offering energy efficiency, and minimal maintenance.
After extensive research, stadium operators selected an LED system engineered by Musco Lighting. Musco’s Total Light Control (TLC) system technology has been employed at soccer stadiums around the world, including several English Premier League venues.
“Musco’s TLC for LED sports lighting system has helped us achieve our lighting goals by providing a league compliant system that is guaranteed to perform at a high level for the foreseeable future,” said Scott Neal, vice president and stadium general manager.
The project’s leaders worked closely with Musco experts to design a customized LED lighting system that would make the Orlando City Stadium experience truly unique, interface with the main scoreboard and fascia LED boards, and align with other structural features unique to the venue.
The Musco system delivers clean and uniform on-field lighting, and its patented glare control technology virtually eliminates glare from impacting players and spectators. Given Orlando City Stadium’s location – in the city’s downtown area – it was also vital to avoid spilling light into the adjacent buildings. The lighting system achieves this thanks to custom optics which control the light being emitted from the LEDs with pinpoint precision.
The system is backed by Musco’s long-term parts and labor warranty – so Orlando SC won’t have to be concerned with lighting maintenance, or pay for it – and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,037 tons over the next decade, compared to typical metal halide equipment. This will save the club more than US$565,000 in ownership and operating costs over that timeframe.
“The leaders at Orlando City SC wanted to build a stadium that would present the most intense atmosphere in the MLS,” said Jeff Rogers, vice president of Musco Lighting.
“They visited stadia all over the country, and secured a location as good as any you’ll find for an MLS venue. So we knew our LED system had to deliver. Our engineers worked closely with their team to custom design a lighting solution that would meet their specific goals. And if you look at how it’s performed, we’re confident it has.”
