Western Australia’s McGowan government has released an update on the new Perth Stadium. The new venue is estimated to be 82% complete and on track for opening ahead of the 2018 AFL season. Recently, the WA government announced that musician Ed Sheeran would perform at the multipurpose stadium in March 2018, with a number of other potential events being considered to mark the official opening if an earlier-than-estimated completion can be realized.
Hosting the December Ashes Test at Perth Stadium, however, will not be possible, and the state government has confirmed with Cricket Australia that the Perth Test will be played at the WACA Ground from December 14 to 18, 2017.
