The BAM-Ghelamco consortium has been chosen by the city of Brussels to build, finance and operate the new Heysel soccer stadium.
The decision was made after analysis of three competing bids. Negotiations between the city and BAM-Ghelamco will start in the next few weeks; if no agreement is reached, the city reserves the right to turn to another candidate.
In late June 2015, the contract will be signed for the construction of the stadium and work is expected to start in 2016, when UEFA will also choose the host city for the opening match of Euro 2020. Brussels, already a host city for the championships, is a candidate for this opening match.
