The recent Champions League Final in Madrid, Spain, saw the deployment of an EPOS and payments system to handle the large number of fans buying merchandise at the event.
During the all-English final where Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur, another UK entity was playing its part off-the-pitch as Bleep UK, a manufacturer of Electronic Point of Sale systems installed over 80 terminals at the Wanda Metropolitano.
73 Bleep TS-813 EPOS terminals were deployed, with built-in printers, barcode scanners, and POS media video customer displays, all sending live sales and stock data to Web Back Office. Each EPOS terminal had an Ingenico iPP350 pin pad integrated for ultra-fast and secure contactless payments. This was installed in the retail stores at the fan zones and outside the stadium, the hospitality and VIP areas inside the stadium and the superstore in the heart of Madrid – all selling a range of official and licensed merchandise.
There were also a further 10 Self-Service EPOS Kiosks in the MasterCard VIP area, where VIPs could ‘tap and collect’ by ordering merchandise on the innovative, user-friendly kiosks and pay on their preloaded wristbands, with items then available to collect after the match.
The technology is also being deployed at other major upcoming sporting events such as The Open golf tournament, The Wimbledon Championships, and the Rugby World Cup in Japan.
