The US NFL has been granted approval to use drone-mounted cameras for filming, reports Fortune. However, the concession only extends to empty stadia, meaning UAV filming during games remains off limits. The move makes the NFL the first major sports league to legalize the flying of drones.
Furthermore, the use of drones for a variety of other purposes – such as delivering refreshments to seats – has not been approved, so this step – though important – falls some way short of paving the way for drone technology impacting on the gameday experience.
