London-based Midstream, which specializes in LED high-mast lighting, has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation for its range of products often found at major international airports and container ports, and plans to bring its technology to sports stadia.
Sports stadia lighting has seen a generational leap thanks to the introduction of LED technology. However thermal management and cost are a challenge when producing high power products – all of these are areas that Midstream’s suite of products have successfully met.
“Having invested significantly in R&D, we are delighted to win this Queen’s Award for innovation, which recognizes the development of the host of proprietary and unique features which set our products apart from all others in the market,” said Dominic Dreyfus, chairman at Midstream.
Midstream’s development in the area could offer stadium operators more efficient lighting solutions and the opportunity to upgrade old systems – which take a long time to warm up and have a noticeable flickering effect on high-definition broadcasts – more affordably.
As well as identifying sporting stadia as a future application of its LED lighting, it also works with architects with lighting design from the masterplanning stage.
