Originally developed as the playing and training venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games softball competition, Blacktown International Sportspark’s Softball Centre remains the finest softball facility in Australia, and hosts a wide program of prestigious national and international tournaments and training.
Maintaining its facilities at a level befitting the country’s leading venue of its type, the Softball Centre recently commissioned Sydney-based integrator Kayder to install a new main PA system. The brief was to provide a durable all-weather system with superior speech intelligibility, while maintaining extended response for full-range music when required. Working together with Hills, the leading AV distributor in Australia and New Zealand, the system was designed to utilize Community R Series loudspeakers, selected as the optimum solution to meet the client’s criteria.
As Blake Kirby (Hills general manager, AV product practice) explained, “In addition to outstanding intelligibility, sound quality and all-weather reliability, the advantage of R Series lies in its wide range of models, which provides all the throw and dispersion pattern combinations needed to optimize any system for complete and consistent coverage. For the Softball Centre, the coverage required four R.5HP, 14 R.5-94TZ and two R.35-3896B.”
For ease of use and flexibility, Kayder designed the system with full Crestron control. System DSP is handled by Q-SYS, and QSC amplifiers were chosen to power the Community loudspeakers.
“A leading international venue such as the Softball Centre deserves a class-leading sound system, and that’s what has been delivered,” said Kirby. “With glowing reports from the installer and end user alike, the system will provide the best possible experience for fans for many years to come.”
