UK-based AFL Architects has created the bid dossier for the Turkish bid for the UEFA Euro 2024 soccer tournament, after the company’s appointment by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) last year.
For the architectural practice, the project enabled the team to demonstrate its full expertise in delivering major international events.
As well as production of the submission, the bid involves the review of 10 stadia in nine host cities across the country. AFL’s specialist sports team is ensuring all stadia and associated infrastructure are compliant with UEFA regulations and can provide fans with world-class hospitality.
The practice has been analyzing tournament readiness of seven stadia and the major upgrade and design of three stadia for the tournament. The delivery of these projects will represent the peak of the TFF’s investment in developing football within the country, from grassroots to professional level. This is supported by a wider development strategy encompassing fan zones, transport, training venues and hotels, all designed to leave a sustainable, inclusive legacy for Turkey.
“This partnership with the TFF is an exciting development for the practice,” noted John Roberts, sports director at AFL Architects. “Our team has significant experience in the delivery of UEFA, FIFA and Olympic stadia and masterplans. Being involved at such an early stage of a major event is a fantastic opportunity, and one where we are able to demonstrate the full potential of our expertise.”
The bid outlines Turkey’s vision for the major event, under the slogan ‘Birlikte Paylaşalım’, meaning ‘Share Together’. This encapsulates the young, inclusive spirit of football that Turkey aims to showcase to an international audience – forming a bridge between Europe and the rest of the world.
