The City of Regina has announced that the University of Regina Rams will host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football game on Saturday, October 1 at the new Mosaic Stadium. The game will be the first test of the multipurpose facility, which will be substantially complete on August 31. The new Mosaic Stadium will host its first Saskatchewan Roughriders game in June 2017.
The test game is the city’s opportunity to meet one of the contractual requirements with PCL, the stadium project construction partner. The game is part of the overall Regina Revitalization Initiative Stadium Project and is designed to test the construction of the building – including washrooms, public address systems and elevators. Operational plans that will support the stadium, including access and egress, transportation, parking and security, will also be tested.
“This test game has been speculated about for quite some time and I’m very pleased to make this official. This will give us our first chance at making sure that we all have the fantastic experience we envisioned when new Mosaic Stadium officially opens next year,” said Regina Mayor Michael Fougere.
The October 1 game is the first of three tests that will take place prior to the official grand opening in the summer of 2017.
A new regular season attendance record for Canada West Universities Athletic Association football will be set with 16,500 participants at the test game.
