The Kansas City Chiefs has hired a firm to research fan sentiment on where its next stadium should be and what it should look like.
CSL International is contracted to survey, interview and conduct focus group of stakeholders about the future home of the Chiefs. The team’s lease at its current home in Truman Sports Complex expires in 2031.
“As we continue exploring options and zeroing in on the decision that will be best for the organization and our fans in the long-term, the next step in the process is to gather stakeholder input on various aspects of the stadium experience — whether that’s as part of a renovation or a new build,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a news release.
Meanwhile, Jackson County, Missouri, voters rejected a proposal to extend a three-eights sales tax for 25 years that would have funded a new baseball stadium for the Kansas City Royals and renovations at Arrowhead.
The failed vote prompted the Kansas legislature to attempt to woo the Chiefs across the border with an incentive package that offered to pay up to 70% of construction costs with lottery revenues, funds from online sports wagering and Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) Bonds, a program that pays for economic incentives with sales taxes collected in and around the project.
