English Premier League soccer club Tottenham Hotspur FC is offering fans the chance to be the first to experience its new stadium after announcing it will hold its first familiarization event on December 16.
After failing to open on schedule in August 2018 due to safety concerns, the club has been working toward a new early 2019 opening date. Fans wanting to get a peek inside the state-of-the-art 62,062 capacity venue before then will get the opportunity via an organized event that invites season ticket holders to test the venue’s ticketing systems, security, entry and facilities.
Only 6,000 fans will be allowed into the familiarization event. These fans will be selected via a ballot to win a ticket costing £1 (US$1.2) each and it is understood that the 6,000 lucky fans will be split into two groups and participate in tests at the venue’s south stand that would normally be seen on matchdays to see how the venue copes.
Despite holding this test event more than three months later than originally planned, it still serves as a positive sign for the soccer club as the stadium reaches completion. The club has been playing its home games at Wembley Stadium, home to the England national team, while its new White Hart Lane Stadium is completed. However it was recently announced that capacity at the 90,000-seater stadium will be capped at 51,000 for the remainder of its time as tenants.
