Groundskeepers and turf managers across the globe will be getting creative with their mowing after the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) announced it has kicked off its annual Mowing Patterns Contest.
The Sports Turf Managers Association comprises more than 2,700 sports fields industry professionals, who have been challenged to show off their most innovative and impressive designs as they bid to take top honors in the distinguished annual contest.
Last year’s winner, Kelly Rensel, who holds the position of head groundskeeper at the Great Lakes Loons in Michigan – a Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers – won with an intricate design of the Loons’ logo mowed into the outfield.
“We’re constantly impressed by the imaginative and aesthetically pleasing designs our members create while maintaining safe playing surfaces,” said Kim Heck, CAE, chief executive officer at STMA. “This contest offers an opportunity to showcase some of these incredible works of art.”
To qualify, creations can be produced only by STMA members using mowing equipment and the designs must be submitted via Facebook before November 16. They will then be voted on by members of the public via the social platform from November 17-23. The winner with the most votes will be announced on November 26.
The Mowing Patterns winning design will have a custom poster featured at the 2019 STMA Conference & Exhibition, which takes place on January 22-25, 2019, in Phoenix, Arizona.
