Russian Premier League soccer side FK Rostov, which moved into its brand-new Rostov Arena following the 2018 FIFA World Cup, could make a controversial move back to its old stadium over a row concerning potential damage to the playing surface by an upcoming concert.
The team is threatening to leave the new 45,000-seater venue for its older and smaller capacity Olimp-2 Stadium to host home games after worries a scheduled concert of Russian rapper Basta could cause “serious suffering” to the pitch and that it would not be in playing condition for its next home game 11 days later.
A statement on the FK Rostov website reads: “The stadium management company ‘Sport-In’ decided to hold a concert on the pitch of the Rostov Arena, without taking into account the interests of the club. Therefore, the home game against Ufa on September 22 may be the last match of the Yellow and Blues held at the Rostov Arena this season.”
