Belgian soccer side RWD Molenbeek will be introducing face-scanning biometric recognition to its stadium ticketing and security setup, with cameras granting ticketless access to fans who have uploaded a selfie when they buy tickets online.
The innovative technology from Zetes, an identification solutions company, will deploy Panasonic’s server-based WV-ASF950 software, which will be able to recognize faces of fans as they approach the venue and match their photo, then allow seamless access to speed up the process of entry on game-day.
“Facial recognition technology is a way for us to ensure that only authorized people have access to the stands,” explained Thierry Dailly, president of RWD Molenbeek. “The very high reliability of the recognition, coupled with the speed of information processing, allowed us to set up a system that is the least intrusive possible for our members and enables us to speed up the controls at the entrance. We are very pleased with the solution provided by Zetes and we look forward to its implementation in September 2018.”
RWD Molenbeek joins a number of sports teams and stadia that are integrating biometric security solutions for quicker stadium entry for fans. Last week Stadia reported on MLS teams LAFC and the San Jose Earthquakes becoming the latest of a growing list of US sports stadia to announce fingerprint scanning technology from Clear at their respective venues.
