Major League Baseball team the St Louis Cardinals has announced that it will renovate a 20,000ft² area of seating in the right-field at Busch Stadium to offer fans an entirely new game-day experience through standing areas with two new bars, cabana seating, a garden area with open-air barbecue, and a performance stage for live bands.
Located on the fourth level in the former Riverview Corner, the all-new Budweiser Terrace will replace the 1,000 seats that were removed from six sections of the upper-right-field of the stadium and is scheduled to be completed by the Cardinals’ 2018 opening game on April 5.
The introduction of premium seating at the sacrifice of regular seats is the subject of this month’s Stadia poll, but while many teams are charging extra for the privilege, the Cardinals will not be requiring the purchase of special tickets. Access to the Budweiser Terrace will be open to all fans and operate using a first-come, first-served basis.
“We are excited about this new gathering place at Busch Stadium,” said Bill DeWitt III, president of the St Louis Cardinals. “The Budweiser Terrace is designed to be a free attraction for fans looking for a social experience where they can watch the game and connect with other people at the same time.”
Renderings of the plan show fans being able to watch the game as they stand or walk around food and drink areas, while cabanas and lounges will allow fans to sit in groups with full views of the field.
Fans enjoying the social space’s pre-game and in-game entertainment accompanied by the full-service bars will no doubt be viewed by the club as a way to increase revenue.
