Windsor Park in Belfast may have lost out on the chance to host the 2019 UEFA Super Cup but it could be picked to stage the 2020 soccer event after it was it was announced the stadium was in the running once again.
The Super Cup –which sees the winners of European club soccer competitions the Champions League and Europa League face each other – has seen nine stadiums express an interest in hosting the event.
Northern Ireland’s Windsor Park, which has a capacity of 18,434, was beaten by Istanbul’s Vodafone Arena for the 2019 event but has pitched for the one-match competition once again.
Nations hosting matches in the 2020 European Championship were not allowed to bid for the 2020 Super Cup, which is played in August.
The winning bid will be chosen by UEFA in May 2018. The other stadiums that have registered their interest are:

Allianz Riviera: Nice, France
Sammy Ofer Stadium: Haifa, Israel
Central Stadium: Almaty, Kazakhstan
Zimbru Stadium: Chisinau, Moldova
Windsor Park: Belfast, Northern Ireland
