The AmericanAirlines Arena, home to the NBA’s Miami Heat, will finally be offering fans access to full-stadium wi-fi after a long wait.
One of the National Basketball Association league’s last venues without a wi-fi offering, it has now almost completed the installation of over 350 access points around the arena as basketball fans and concert goers rallied for the technology in order to help them share experiences at events using social media.
Prior to this, the Heat relied on cellular DAS to provide wireless connectivity, however it became increasingly unviable for fans and the building itself to operate using the limited bandwidth.
The new system, with hardware from HP-owned Aruba and installed by MSB, is said to be “the best wi-fi out there”. It will see the majority of access points located on the arena’s catwalks rather than under seats as construction time would have take much longer.
Not only will fans benefit from a noticeably faster wireless offering enabling them to Tweet, ‘Insta’, and find shorter concession queues through its WaitTime app, but the increased bandwidth will also support the stadium’s decision to roll out a digital-only ticketing system.
