The Capital One Arena in Washington DC will undergo a US$40m upgrade in the summer of 2018, with the multi-purpose venue updating seating, AV systems, lounges, concessions and concourses throughout.
The 20,000-seat stadium is home to a number of sports teams including the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals as well as AFL, WNBA, NCAA teams and hosting concerts and events.
The privately funded upgrade program was announced by Monumental Sports and Entertainment which stated that “these upgrades will ensure that the fan experience at Capital One Arena remains second to none”.
Further planned renovations to the 20-year-old arena include a state-of-the-art sound system, digital displays, locally sourced food for concessions, and immersive fan engagement areas. All the improvements are expected to be ready for the 2018-19 NBA and NHL seasons.
