Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire has sold the naming rights to its home stadium and will be playing under the new signage of the SeatGeek Stadium following its final game of the 2018 season.
Since the venue in Bridgeview, Illinois, opened in 2006 it has been known as Toyota Park after the car manufacturer purchased its naming rights. However the company decided to not renew the deal, which expired in 2016.
Now, the Village of Bridgeview, which owns the stadium, is believed to have sold the rights to the online ticket seller company in a deal worth between US$2.5m and US$4m per year, according to Bloomberg. Further details of the deal, including length of the contract were not revealed.
“Throughout the years our club – and most importantly our fans – have helped create memorable moments at this stadium,” said John Urban, COO of Chicago Fire, in a statement on the deal. “We look forward to having SeatGeek add to our home-field advantage.”
The owners of the stadium will also benefit from the partnership with SeatGeek which will bring more live events to the venue, including music concerts, festivals and sporting exhibitions outside of soccer.
