The 12 venues that will host matches at this year’s World Cup have been working hard in preparation for the kick-off of the world’s biggest sporting event. This includes the Ekaterinburg Stadium, which has undergone a recent upgrade and installed state-of-the-art audio for the occasion.
The 35,000-seat stadium has not only added new lighting and turf during a recent redevelopment, which Stadia has previously reported on, but will also be making noise with a new loudspeaker system from Italian audio experts Outline.
To enhance the intelligibility of announcements and music a total of 223 Outline loudspeaker enclosures based around its new Stadia series of products have been installed across the facility.
The system uses three different models (100-10, 100-20 and 100-30) that offer a choice of vertical dispersion characteristics in a design that comprises 121 Stadia modules throughout the venue.
In addition to this there are 48 Outline ST SUB low-frequency modules, while a further 54 Vegas 24 ultra-compact enclosures are used to cover the VIP and guest zones. More than 300 individual channels of Outline amplification power the system with a combined total power of over 1,000,000W.
“When the system was turned on for the first time, using only the factory presets, the result was already intelligible and musical. We made some fine tuning (that was in any case foreseen during the system design), the system works with a lot of headroom and it is necessary to keep it in mind when working with the audience,” said Alexander Klinushkin, senior engineer at Sofit Light – Outline’s distributor in the Russian Federation who worked closely with the design of the sound reinforcement system.
Four World Cup matches will be played at the Ekaterinburg Stadium, which is also home to Russian Premier League soccer side Ural Ekaterinburg.
