Newly promoted English Premier League team Middlesbrough FC has spent an estimated £5m (US$6.6m) on improvements to the club’s Riverside Stadium, reports the Gazette, bringing the stadium up to the standards of the top tier of English soccer.
Papers lodged with Middlesbrough Council confirm that the venue’s official capacity will be 33,746, while the stadium’s safety certificate is awaiting re-approval from the body. This will, the club hopes, take place at a meeting on July 25.
Improvements to the ground include enlarged media facilities, improved floodlighting (with increased brightness and zero flicker, in line with league broadcasting requirements), an altered entrance setup, new studio and broadcast compound facilities, increased numbers of camera positions and press seats, and a number of other upgrades.
