The RDS Arena in Dublin, Ireland, has been granted approval for a US$29m upgrade package which will see the venue’s capacity increased, reports The Irish Times.
Dublin City Council has approved the scheme, which includes redevelopment of the arena’s Anglesea Stand – upping the venue capacity from 18,500 to 21,000. The stadium, home to Leinster Rugby, can now move forward with the project, despite objections from local residents.
The existing Anglesea Stand will be demolished, and a three-story, floodlit grandstand constructed. The project also includes an additional two-story structure, connected to the grandstand by a glazed bridge.
