State Farm Stadium: Arizona Cardinals sell naming rights to University of Arizona Stadium

Just weeks after unveiling the result of US$28m of renovations, the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals have announced a name change to the University of Arizona Stadium.

The Cardinals’ new home will now be known as the State Farm Stadium, marking an end to the university’s name above the door since the venue’s opening in 2006.

The agreement between the Arizona Cardinals and State Farm will run for 18 years, however details on how much the team received from the naming rights partner was not disclosed.

Michael Bidwill, the Cardinal’s president, reassured that the team will still support the University of Phoenix as an education partner, during a press conference revealing the name change.

Remarkably, the stadium has sold out every Cardinals’ home game since they moved there in 2006. The figure stands at 126 games heading into the 2018/19 season. The venue is also scheduled to host the Super Bowl in 2023 and the Final Four in 2024.

The news follows last week’s announcement of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks’ new arena also entering into a naming rights deal with State Farm, which will run for 20 years.
